Fascia is the vertical board that runs along the lower edge of your roofline, closing off the rafter tails and providing the attachment point for gutters. Soffit is the horizontal surface that closes the underside of the roof overhang between the fascia and the wall. Together they create a finished roofline and — when properly vented — form a critical part of your attic's ventilation system.

In winter, warm moist air from living spaces rises into the attic. Without adequate ventilation, this moisture condenses on the underside of the roof deck, causing rot, mold, and structural damage. In summer, a poorly ventilated attic can reach 65°C, dramatically shortening shingle life and increasing cooling costs. Vented soffit is the intake half of the ridge-and-soffit ventilation system — it must be open and clear to work.

Key warning signs include: peeling paint or visible rot on fascia boards, sagging or buckling soffit panels, dark staining or water marks under the eaves, visible pest entry holes, gutters pulling away from the fascia, or simply soffit that is painted wood (which will eventually fail). Aluminum soffit and fascia eliminate all of these failure modes permanently.

Yes — and it is one of the most common wildlife entry routes in Calgary. Squirrels, starlings, house sparrows, and wasps are all adept at exploiting gaps in deteriorating soffit. Properly installed aluminum soffit with continuous vent profiles has no gaps large enough for most pests, and we seal any existing entry points as part of our installation.

Not necessarily, but coordinating your soffit, fascia, and gutter colors with your siding creates a cohesive, polished look. Aluminum soffit and fascia come in a wide range of factory-baked enamel finishes. Many homeowners choose white or matching trim colors for a clean contrast, while others coordinate for a monochromatic look. We bring color samples to every estimate.
