5-inch gutters are standard for most Calgary homes with typical roof pitches and drainage areas. 6-inch gutters are recommended for larger roofs, steep pitches, or homes in areas with heavier runoff. We calculate the correct sizing based on your roof's square footage and pitch during our measurement visit — there is no guessing involved.

Sectional gutters are pre-cut lengths joined by connectors, which create seams that are the primary failure points — they collect debris, expand and contract with Calgary's temperature swings, and eventually leak. Seamless gutters are custom-fabricated on-site from a single continuous piece of aluminum for each run, eliminating virtually all joint leaks. We only install seamless gutters.

We recommend cleaning gutters at minimum twice a year in Calgary: once in late spring after cottonwood season, and once in late fall after leaf drop. Homes near mature trees may need additional cleanings. Gutter guards can significantly reduce cleaning frequency by blocking debris while allowing water through.

Both. Ice dams form when heat escapes through the roof deck and melts snow, which then refreezes at the cold eave — often inside or behind your gutters. Proper attic insulation and ventilation address the root cause, but gutters that are improperly sloped or blocked with debris accelerate ice dam severity. We always check gutter slope and recommend ventilation corrections when relevant.
